DVF jawan martyred in landmine blast in Odisha

Rayagada: A jawan of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) was martyred in Odisha after a landmine exploded near Sakata village under Muniguda police limits of Rayagada district late last night.

It is suspected that the landmine was planted by Maoists.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Majhi (22) of Ambadola village of the district.

The jawan fall prey to the explosion during a combing operation in Niyamagiri area. Majhi sustained critical injury in the blast and was rushed to nearby hospital, but he died on the way to hospital, informed Rayagada SP Rahul PR.

The body of the Jawan has been kept at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) and will later be taken to the police headquarters where the mortal remains will be accorded guard of honour, informed sources. The body will then be taken to his native village for last rites.

CRPF and SOG jawans have intensified combing operation in and around Sakata village following the incident.
