Dutee, Purnima shine in Indian Grand Prix


Patiala: Two Odia girls – ace sprinter Dutee Chand and Purnima Hembrum made the State proud at the Indian Grand Prix Athletics Championships held at the National Institute of Sports here on Tuesday.

While Dutee clinched the gold medal in the 100m event, Purnima clinched the bronze medal in the women Long jump event in the Championships with a jump of 5.99 metre.

Dutee recorded a timing of 11.57 seconds, while Assam’s Hima Das and Karnataka’s Prajna Prakash won the silver and bronze medals with a timing of 11.74 seconds and 11.76 seconds respectively.

Nayana James and Neena Pinto, both from Kerla, bagged the gold and silver medals in the women Long jump event.
