Drunken groom lands in police station in Odisha

Rourkela: A wedding ceremony was stopped mid-way after the groom and his friends misbehaved with the bride’s family and relatives in inebriated state last night in Steel City Rourkela.

On Sunday night, Shankar Panda of Champagarh slum under Bandhamunda police limits arrived in a colourful procession to wed Arsul Panda’s daughter, a resident of Labour Colony under Tangarpali police limits.

However, the wedding venue at Saranagari Jagannath Temple in Rourkela turned battlefield as some persons, who were part in the groom’s procession, were heavily drunk and started misbehaving with bride’s family members.

Following the scuffle between the persons in both the sides, the wedding ceremony was stopped mid-way.

Later, the bride’s family filed a complaint at Tangarpali police station.  The bride’s family has accused the groom and his associates of creating ruckus and abusing family members in inebriated state during the wedding ceremony last night and demanded compensation.

Police have launched a probe into the incident detaining the drunken groom and others on basis of the complaint lodged by the bride’s family members.
