Dr Rabindra Jena sent to judicial custody till Jan 3


Balasore: Head of SCB Clinical Hematology Department, Dr Rabindra Kumar Jena, who was arrested yesterday night, has been sent to judicial custody till January 3 after his bail plea got rejected by a Special Vigilance court today.

The court also asked the Vigilance department to submit the case diary and fixed December 27 for hearing of bail plea of Jena filed earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, the anti-graft unit has sought for a five-day remand of Jena and the hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

Notably, Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested Jena, who was absconding on charges of embezzling Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF).

The anti corruption wing nabbed him near Laxmannath check-gate, on charges of amassing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income, while he was returning from West Bengal.

A team of anti-corruption bureau conducted a raid late in the night after getting a tip-off on Jena’s whereabouts and nabbed him while trying to cross the check-gate which is located on Odisha-West Bengal border boarding a car.

Jena, the main accused in Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF) scam is accused of generating huge sum of money by availing junkets from pharmaceutical companies along with another Dr Sudha Sethy. He is also accused of showing undue favour to those companies by prescribing costly drugs to patients causing loss to State Government.
