Dolphin carcass found at Chilika lake

Puri: The carcass of an Irrawaddy dolphin was found near Ghatapenta area of Chilika lake under the Satapada area on Sunday morning.

The locals spotted the carcass of the dolphin lying on the sand and informed the forest department officials. While the exact reason behind the dolphin’s death is unknown, locals suspect that it was killed after being hit by a fishing boat.

The forest officials, who reached the spot and seized the carcass for an autopsy, have also launched a probe to ascertain the actual cause behind the death of the dolphin, sources said.
