Doctors’ strike in Maharashtra: Resident doctors asked to report to work or lose six month’s salary

Mumbai: Maharashtra government has issued an ultimatum to its doctors, who have been on mass casual leave since Sunday.

Maharashtra medical education minister Girish Mahajan on Wednesday warned doctors who are on strike to join duty by Wednesday evening or face stern action, including salary cut for six months.

Around 3,500 doctors have been protesting since Sunday, demanding more security at the workplace after their colleagues in a few hospitals faced attack.

The protest, though, has increased the plight of patients, with out-patient departments in most hospitals not functioning.

The Mumbai civic authorities have also served show-cause notice to more than a thousand doctors who had been on strike for the last three days.
