Mathura: In a bizarre incident here, a 46-year-old businessman from Bakalpur, named Binod Sharma’s surgeons removed 11,816 gallstones from his body after he complained of stomach pain.
Here the interesting thing is that for counting and re-counting the exact number of stones it took three days. Even the family members of the surgeon, who spearheaded the gallbladder surgery, helped him for counting the stones.
Such a large number of gallstones were removed in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital. The gallbladder was twice the size of a normal gallbladder. CT scan also failed to find out that there were so many stones in the gallbladder. The biggest gallbladder was of the size of 3.2mm. Some were 2mm or 2.5 mm size.
On November 23, the doctors operated Sharma using laparoscopic technique. According to the doctors the case was not complicated at that time but it was risky since the patient’s condition could have led to could severe jaundice said doctors.
