Koraput: While the energy crisis is a big threat and unscheduled power cuts are the order of the day, street lights can be seen burning even in the day time in Jeypore town in Koraput district.
While the Central and State government have implemented several schemes to facilitate electricity supply, the officials of the electricity department here have been showcasing irresponsibility on their part, alleged local.
They said: “The street lamps could be seen glowing during the day time, but the officials concerned have turned a blind eye to the issue. The contractor responsible for the maintenance of the lights stated that the concerned electricity department authorities have full control over the functioning of street lights. The contractor also added that due to the faulty connections of electric wires, the street lights remain on in the morning also.”
At least 40 per cent of the town is yet to be facilitated with street lights while 60 per cent street lights burn round the clock. Such a situation prevails in the town for the last six months, locals alleged.
This apart, the locals also expressed dismay over the carelessness of the local police in curbing overspeeding by motorcyclists, who cause mayhem in crowded areas and colonies the town area, with thumping exhaust noise coming out of their motorcycles. A month has passed since Koraput Collector shot a letter to the Town police to put a check on the disorder, but no action has been taken, they alleged.
Moreover, the residents have also complained about the deteriorating condition of the roadways from Koraput Ghat road till Borigumma. “While the motorways were reconstructed six months ago, potholes and chipping of roads emerged in no time,” they further alleged.
Alert residents of Jeypore Town have alleged that despite such disorders, the local administration is yet to take necessary actions in this regard, as a result, the locals are reeling under utter inconvenience.
