Debrigarh leopard death: Two-member NTCA panel to visit Odisha


Bargarh: The two-member committee formed by The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will soon visit Odisha to probe the death of a leopard whose decomposed carcass was found in Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district on Sunday.

The committee comprising Nagpur NTCA AIG and Jabalpur Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) is slated to visit Odisa soon, said sources. The panel is scheduled to submit a report to the NTCA within 10 days.

Bargarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) on Wednesday suspended two forest officials in connection with the death of the leopard.

Earlier on Tuesday, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) sought a detailed report from the Odisha Forest and Environment Department on the circumstances and the cause of death of the leopard and actions taken by it so far.

Notably, on October 28, the decomposed carcass of the leopard was found in a forest near Khajuria village in Bargarh district. Earlier, it was suspected that the carcass was of a tiger.
