Guwahati: The death toll in hooch tragedy following consumption of spurious liquor has risen to 80 in Golaghat and Jorhat districts of Assam on Saturday.
Media reports said labourers consumed the spurious liquor at a tea garden in Golaghat, Assam on Thursday night.
According to reports, an inquiry was ordered by the Assam Chief Minister Sabananda Sonowal into the matter.
Doctors said the deaths were caused due to the consumption of spurious liquor and added that the condition of most patients was deteriorating.
It is worthwhile to mention here that earlier this month, a similar incident resulted in the death of 97 people in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
A large number of people allegedly consumed spurious liquor while attending an after-death ritual.
