Cyclonic storm Kyant weakens into depression, no landfall


Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic storm Kyant has weakened into a deep depression in the past six hours and is moving at a 17 kmph. It will further weaken into a depression and will not make a landfall, said met officials. Odisha is completely free of any impact now and warnings have also been recalled.

“The Deep Depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved further west-southwestwards in past six hours with speed 17 kmph and lay centred over westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 320 km southeast of Vishakhapatnam and 460 km east of Machilipatnam and 600 km east-northeast of Nellore. It is most likely to move west-southwestwards and weaken further into a depression during next 24 hours,” said a senior met official.

While it rained heavily in coastal parts of Odisha on late Wednesday night, the weather is cloudy in some parts of the state whereas its already bright and sunny in most coastal regions on Thursday. The depression will further  move towards Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the next few hours.
