Curfew imposed in Kendrapara town following communal tension
Kendrapara: Following the violence during the 12-hour bandh in Kendrapara district, the district administration clamped curfew in the town, which will remain in force till tomorrow, informed the Sub-Collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra today.
As per sources, despite the deployment of police forces, two groups managed to pelt stones at each other near Kali Mandir Chhak. However, the situation was brought under control by the police.
The district administration was forced to impose Section 144 (curfew) in Kendrapara town due to deteriorating law and order situation. The curfew will continue till 8 am,” the sub-collector said, adding that 11 platoons of police forces have been deployed in sensitive points in order to maintain law and order.
The Rashtriya Suraksha Manch had called for a 12-hour bandh in the town following a fiery group clash in the district headquarters yesterday. Markets, business establishments, and government offices remained closed in view of the bandh.
Notably, tension erupted in the area over organising a meeting in High School ground on the occasion of birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai yesterday.
