Court extends Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s judicial custody by 14 more days


Bhubaneswar: The Jharpara Jail camp court here on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, by 14 more days.

Taking up the bail plea filed by Iyer, the Jharpara Jail camp court conducted a hearing and reserved its verdict. The court also remanded him to judicial custody by 14 more days.

Currently, Iyer is lodged in Jharpara Jail in Bhubaneswar for allegedly abusing the culture of Odisha and making derogatory remarks against Konark Sun Temple.

Notably, Iyer was arrested by the Commissionerate Police soon after his appearance before the House panel on October 23. He was produced before the court of the SDJM, Bhubaneswar and was sent on 14-day judicial custody which ended today.

The Konark police had taken him on remand for interrogation into his alleged abusive remarks against Sun Temple. After completion of the remand period, Iyer was again sent to Jharpada jail.
