Cops, rebels exchange fire in Angul forest


Angul: An exchange of fire took place between the police forces and Maoists in Purunakot forest of Angul district on Monday. However, no casualty has been reported so far.

Informing the media Talcher Range DIG, Nrusingha Bhoi said, “Based on reliable inputs regarding presence of more than 30 Maoists in the forest region the cops conducted a search operation in which an exchange of fire took place.”

He further said that taking advantage of the dense forest, the Naxals managed to escape the scene. It is suspected that the red rebels had congregated at the place to chalk out their strategy to carry out an attack.

According to available information, the gun fight is currently underway and search operation has been intensified in the nearby areas, sources in the police said.
