Cops-Maoist exchange fire; combing ops underway in Malkangiri


Malkangiri: An exchange of fire between police personnel and Maoist at Daldali Ghati in Kartanpalli panchayat of Mathili block in the district is underway since Thursday evening. Reportedly, the security forces have launched a combing operation to hunt down the rebels.

Reportedly, the cops zeroed in on a location that was hosting a memorial service for a late Maoist commandant Agarwal on the pretext of public gathering. The event was being held by Maoist leader Miliki and Machha.

A team of District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel led by Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena launched a search operation in the Tulasi forest area. During the search, the outlaws opened fire on the police force and the gun battle began.

However, no casualties or loss of life has been reported so far.

On Thursday night, the police force had busted a Maoist camp and seized huge cache of arms and ammunition while the Maoist managed to give a slip. A combing operation is still on by the security forces to track down the Maoist hiding in the forest.

The gunfight between the cops and the rebels began last night in a forest near Tulasipur hills in Mathili police limits. No further information has been disclosed by the police so far.
