Cops-Lawyers Spat: Orissa HC Postpones Hearing To Nov 15

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court, which was about to hear the ongoing cops-laywers spat today, postponed the hearing again to November 15 as the Crime Branch again failed to submit the charge sheet.

On behalf of the CB, the government counsel appeared before the HC and prayed to extend the deadline for submitting the charge sheet by another two weeks.

However, the division bench of the Chief Justice KS Jhaveri postponed the hearing to November 15, keeping in view the protests by the lawyers of the Orissa High Court Bar Association.

On Monday, the division bench had directed the State Government not to revoke the suspension order of the three cops allegedly involved in the assault on a lawyer in Cuttack on August 28.

On the other hand, another bench of Justice Chitta Ranjan Das on Tuesday heard the plea filed by lawyer Debi Prasanna Patnaik against the police apathy. The bench posted its hearing to November 14.

Based on the judgment of the HC bench, the Bar Association would take a decision at its general body on November 14.
