Congress workers block NH-16 over fuel price hike
Cuttack: Protesting the hike in fuel prices by the Central government, Odisha Congress workers on Monday staged a road blocked on the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar National Highway at Gopalpur traffic square in Cuttack.
According to sources, the central government today hiked the petrol and diesel price due to fall in rupee and subsequent rise in crude oil price. Congress activists protested demanding the government to withdraw the hiked price of petrol and diesel in the state.
Hundreds of agitators led by Congress leader Mohmmad Mukim, blocked the NH at Gopalpur by burning tyres. Following which, hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both the sides of the NH.
The agitators have blamed the Centre for failing to control the fuel prices as a result which the common man bears the brunt.
The protesters allowed movement of vehicles after police intervened, it was learnt.
