New Delhi: Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday that the Congress party needed an ‘energetic chief’ even as the party is going through a leadership crisis.
Scindia’s statement comes days after Rahul Gandhi stepped down as chief owning moral responsibility for the poll debacle.
Sources said Scindia’s statement is seen as a moral pressure on Rahul Gandhi to appoint him as the next party president.
Talking to reporters, Scindia said he had already submitted his resignation to Rahul Gandhi last month taking responsibility for the party’s drubbing at the hustings. Notably, Scindia himself faced defeat in his bastion Guna (Madhya Pradesh) at the hands of BJP leader KP Yadav in the polls.
When asked about Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, Scindia had called it “unfortunate”. “Decision on a new party president will be taken collectively,” he added.
