Cong MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria quits post

Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA from Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria on Tuesday resigned from the membership of Odisha Legislative Assembly citing failure to provide justice to Kunduli gang-rape victim.

Sagaria tendered his resignation to Odisha Assembly speaker, Pradip Kumar Amat today.

He also stated that he has not resigned from Congress party.

Earlier on October 30, Sagaria informed the media about the decision in which he stated that he had no moral rights of holding the position after the Kunduli ‘gang-rape’ and suicide incident.

Sagaria had successfully contested the 2014 assembly polls in the state as a Congress candidate and was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Koraput assembly segment.

It may be recalled that on October 10 last year, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped in a forest locality near Kunduli under Pottangi police limits in Koraput district. She had allegedly committed suicide in her house on January 22.
