Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday issued safety guidelines for the public to ensure a safe and mishap-free Diwali in the Twin City.
The advisory contained a series of do’s and don’ts to ensure mishap-free celebrations during lighting of lamps and bursting of firecrackers.
Following the Supreme Court directives, the Commissionerate Police has asked people to use fireworks only between 8 pm to 10 pm only.
The CP have asked people to buy firecrackers from licensed shop only and not to use crackers which create sound above 125 decibel.
Police also suggested avoiding use of fireworks near schools, hospitals, residential areas with senior citizens or in crowded place. Besides, the police has asked to ensure that during lighting crackers no pet or stray animals should be harmed.
The people have also been asked not to allow children to use fireworks independently but only under supervision and to strictly follow safety instructions on the fireworks packet. The police has asked people not to wear linen of silk cloths while bursting crackers.
The advisory also advised the people to keep first-aid box, bucket of water, sand and blanket close at hand douse fire. It also mentioned helpline numbers of Police Control Room (Dial 100) and Fire Station (Dial 101) for emergency services.
