Commissionerate Police busts fake note factory in Berhampur, five arrested


Berhampur: A joint team of Tamando police and Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police Sunday busted a fake currency manufacturing and distributing racket at Berhampur and arrested five persons in this connection, including two masterminds.

The arrested were identified as masterminds Rameshwar Maharana (43) and K Ramesh (53) of Berhampur and their associates Pranam Bhoi (19), Dilip Bhoi (23) and Sarat Sahu of Khurda district.

Police have also seized fake notes to the tune of Rs 4,65,050 , five mobile phones along with one colour printer, 22 Xerox cartridges and other materials used to produce counterfeit notes.

The seized money includes Rs 2000, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 50 denominations.

According to a release by police, acting on a specific tip-off, the joint team of Commissionerate Police apprehended three persons at around 10 am on Sunday while the trio was exchanging the fake notes near Mahura Bazaar in Tomando area of Bhubaneswar.

They were identified as Pranam, Dilip and Sarat. During interrogation, they revealed about the fake note printing factory at Berhampur following which the QAT drove to Berhampur and raided the factory.

During the raid, masterminds of the racket Rameshwar and K Ramesh were arrested with seizure of Rs 4,49,550 counterfeit notes and other materials used in manufacturing the fake notes.
