Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik on Friday felicitated the the winner of UNESCO- Kalinga Prize, 2015 professor Diego Andres Golmbek of Argentina, here at the State Secretariat.
Professor Golombek who is a teacher, researcher and author holds a PhD in biology. An independent jury selected him for the Prize in recognition of his tireless contribution to science communication and education in diverse and entertaining formats, notably for his role in the development of Argentina’s first Science Cultural Centre of Ricardo Rojas Centre in Buenos Aires, where the science meets the arts.
Speaking on this occasion, Professor Diego Andres said that he was absolutely delighted to be in the state. He further said that everyone’s culture are different but all have the same love for science and peace.
State Higher Education Minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi said that Diego Andres Golmbek was selected for this prestigious award in 2015 and the award will help improving relation between the two countries.
However, it may be noted here that the Kalinga Prize was created in 1952, following a donation from Biju Patnaik in order to carve Odisha’s identity and image at the global forum. Now the award carries 40,000 US Dollars.
