Christchurch-like incident would have political overtones in India: Mehbooba Mufti

New Delhi: Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said had a Christchurch-like incident occurred in India,  then the leadership would have politicized it.

She said the dispensation at the Centre would have indulged in warmongering. They would have covertly backed the attacks on Muslims, Mufti said.

Nearly 49 people were killed in the attack in New Zealand, described as the worst mass shooting in the country.

A gunman opened fire on people who had gone to the mosque for Friday prayers. He filmed the horrific incident as he was on a shooting spree.

The dastardly act at Masjid Al Noor on Deans Avenue was live-streamed for 17 minutes by the gunman. He identified himself as “Brenton Tarrant”, a white, 28-year-old Australian-born man.

Twitterati lauded the Kiwi Prime Minister for her statement and leadership saying that she displayed rare combination of intelligence, strength, and empathy at the time of distress.
