Bargarh: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for allegedly neglecting the farmers of Odisha.
“The BJP in its 2014 manifesto had promised to double the MSP of paddy. As it was a good announcement, we waited. I even reminded the Centre about it in 2016. However, nothing has happened even if five years have passed,” Patnaik said while addressing a public meeting at Attabira in Bargarh district.
He said that a House Committee was constituted by Odisha Assembly and the members had gone to Delhi to put forth the issue before the Prime Minister. “However, the Delhi Durbar did not have even two minutes to listen to farmers’ issue. Two Union ministers from Odisha also maintained silence,” he said.
He further alleged that the Centre had levied high GST on handloom and handicraft products in the state and withdrawn it after the BJD government’s protest.
The CM also said that despite his repeated demands for inclusion of Koshali language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution, nothing has happened.
