Cabinet approves National Health Poilcy aimed at providing affordable healthcare


New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the National Health Policy 2017 which aims at providing affordable healthcare and increased dearness allowance (DA) for providing the facility to the millions of central government employees and pensioners.

The policy would aim at increasing life expectancy from 67.5 to 70 years and reduce fertility rate to 2.1 by 2025 and it also proposes free diagnostics and drugs in all public hospitals, said Health Minister JP Nadda while unveiling the policy in Lok Sabha today.

As a crucial component, the policy also seeks to reduce infant mortality rate to 28 by 2025 and to decline the neo-natal mortality to 16.

However, the policy also proposes to raise public health care expenditure to 2.5 per cent of GDP from 1.4 per cent with not less than 2/3 of those resources going on head of primary healthcare.
