Shanghai: Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu crafted history by bagging the gold medal at the BWF World Tour Finals on Sunday.
Sindhu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets of 21-19, 21-17 to win the title. With this victory, PV Sindhu became the first Indian to win the season-ending tournament.
World number six Sindhu was ahead of world number five Okuhara in the electrifying clash.
While Sindhu convincingly won the first set, she made it crucial for the Japanese shuttler to win the match. Though initially, Okuhara dominated the second set, she gave the much-needed points to Sindhu towards the end. Sindhu eventually pulled curtains on the tournament with her win and created history.
The Indian shuttler finished second at five different tournaments throughout the year, including the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
