Bus skids off road in J&K, 11 killed

Srinagar: In a tragic incident, a bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir killing 11 and injuring several others.

Reports said the bus plunged into a deep gorge in Plera in Mandi tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday.

The passenger bus was traveling from Loran to Poonch, news agencies reported.

Rescue operations are going on and the injured were being shifted to a sub-district hospital in Mandi for treatment.

Reports said locals helped officials in retrieving the bodies from the wreckage of the bus. The passenger bus is lying near a river.

Nearly 17 people have been wounded of which five were believed to be critically injured. Some of the injured are being airlifted to Jammu for further treatment.

Although the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, it is believed that the driver lost control while negotiating  a curve. The number of casualties might increase, reports said.
