Kalahandi: A woman refused to tie the nuptial knot with a man after she found him in a drunken state at their wedding ceremony at Dundelmal village in Junagarh of Kalahandi district on Friday.
The incident came to fore after, the girl refused to marry the man again in a village meeting which was held last evening to resolve the issue.
According to sources, the marriage of the girl, Dipanjali Naik, was fixed with the Amit Naik, a resident of the Bastipada in Dharmagarh area of this district a few days ago.
The marriage was scheduled to be held on February 21, after the families of both groom and bride nodded for it.
Following the schedule, the groom had reached the bride’s place with a huge procession.
Amit along with his friends consumed alcohol before the marriage procession started, a result which, he started dancing at the procession.
However, the alcohol took Amit in an excited state after he reached the wedding pandal where he lost all his control. The matter became out of control as Amit fell unconscious at the pandal repeatedly
Fed up with Amit’s hooliganism and alcoholism, Dipanjali decided to call off the marriage before any ritual could begin.
Being supported by her family members, Dipanjali walked away from the pandal even though Amit’s family member tried hard to control the incident.
On the other hand, the locals have started comparing Amit with Sishupala (a character from the Mahabharata) as Rukmani had refused to marry him.
