Bhubaneswar: Abhijit Iyer Mitra appeared before the House Committee of Odisha Assembly on Friday for the second time over an alleged breach of privilege.
According to reports, Iyer failed to submit an affidavit to the House panel for his remarks against the lawmakers of the Odisha.
In a statement to the media person, LOP Narasingha Mishra said, “Abhijit Iyer was asked to re-appear before the House Committee tomorrow to submit affidavit, as he failed to submit it today and sought time for the same.”
Earlier, he had appeared before the panel on Oct 23, and had signed the paper containing his statements over the allegations.
The House panel headed by the Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra had asked him to appear before it on Nov 2.
Iyer is currently lodged at Jharpada jail here for allegedly abusing the culture of Odisha and making derogatory remarks against Konark Sun Temple.
Notably, Iyer was arrested by the Commissionerate Police soon after his appearance before the House panel on Oct 23. He was prosduced before the court of the SDJM, Bhubaneswar and was sent on 14-day judicial custody.
The Konark police had taken him on remand for interrogation into his alleged abusive remarks against Sun Temple. After completion of the remand period, Iyer was again sent to Jharpada jail.
