BP Kanungo, second Odia to serve as RBI’s Deputy Governor


New Delhi: After a long wait, Bibhu Prasad Kanungo becomes the second Odia to be promoted as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He was appointed as the Executive director of the Central Bank of India last year.

Earlier, Harun Rashid Khan from Odisha served as RBI’s Deputy Governor for tenure of five years from July 2011 to July 2016.

Reportedly, BP Kanungo will take charge on April 3 replacing R.Gandhi after getting approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Friday.

Besides, he was in charge of Foreign Exchange Department and had served as the Banking Ombudsman for Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.

With a post graduation degree in Arts, Kanungo is Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers and also holds a degree in Law (LLB) from Utkal University.
