Malkangiri: Ahead of the two-phased Chhattisgarh election, a local BJP leader sustained critical cut injuries after he was attacked by Maoists on Sunday night at Bastar range in Dantewada district.
The victim was identified as Nandalal Mudami, a panchayat member.
The deputy inspector general of police of Bastar range RN Dangi informed the media that around half a dozen suspected Naxals with sharp-edged weapons attacked Mudami while he was having dinner at home.
The BJP leader sustained deep cuts on his head and neck following the attack. Mudami was rushed to the district hospital where his health condition is stated to be critical.
The incident took place a day after Naxals blew up a landmine killing seven jawans.
Following this, an operation has been launched in order to determine the alleged involvement of Maoists along with the identity of attackers, said DM Awasthi the special director general of police (Naxal operations). A search operation and a detailed probe into the incident is also underway, added Awasthi.
