BJD MLA Muktikant Mandal surrenders


Bhubaneswar: BJD MLA Muktikanta Mandal today surrendered before the ADJ Court in Bhadrak following the order of Orissa High Court. The Dhamnagar MLA is among the accused of a 2002 murder case.

Mandal is accused of abduction and murder of Niranjan Jena of Sogo village under Basudevpur police limits. Initially, the case filed by the deceased Niranjan’s uncle, Dushasan Jena had accused six persons that included Mandal’s name. However, his name was excluded in the police chargesheet after which Dushasan approached the High Court. Following this, the High Court ordered Bhadrak Sessions Court to include Mandal’s name among accused. The MLA had applied for anticipatory bail after that which was rejected by the High Court on October 20. He surrendered before Court today.

The High Court had also ordered the Bhadrak Sessions Court to conclude the hearing of the case within six months.
