Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha may grab 16 of the total 21 Lok Sabha seats while BJP may win five seats in the 2019 general elections, as predicted by IndiaTV-CNX Opinion Poll.
CNX, a Delhi based research and survey agency, conducted a series of Opinion Polls for IndiaTV to gauge the mood of the nation ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Opinion Poll predicted that the BJD may win 16 seats- four less than what it had won in 2014, while BJP may win five seats with a gain of four seats if polls are held today.
According to the opinion poll, BJP may get 29% votes (Up from 22% in 2014) in Odisha while BJD may get 44% votes (down from 45% in 2014), Congress 22% (down from 26% in 2014) and others 5% (down from 7% in 2014).
The Opinion Poll indicated that 42 per cent of voters prefer Narendra Modi as Prime Minister in UP, West Bengal and Odisha while Rahul Gandhi is way behind at 19%.
Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, political tussle is already heating up with Assembly elections in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram. The Assembly polls in these five states are being considered as semi-final ahead of the mega final likely to be held in April-May 2019.
There are 543 seats in the Lok Sabha and majority mark needed to form the government is 272 seats. In 2014 General Elections, BJP alone had won 282 seats and was able to form an absolute majority government.
