Mumbai: Filmmaker Anand Kumar is all set to make a new biopic on former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia.
After series of biopics on sports personalities like Milkha Singh, Paan Singh Tomar, Mary Kom, MS Dhoni and Sandeep Singh, now audience can get to see a biopic on former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia.
Anand Kumar is best known for Sanjay Dutt-Vivek Oberoi starrer Zila Ghaziabad. Besides, he has directed several other Bollywood films including Delhii Heights in 2007, Jugaad in 2009.
Bhaichung Bhutia is an Indian footballer whose moves on the field have managed to leave many impressed. The Sikkimese Sniper first became the captain in 1998-99. The legendary striker played for over 16 years for the Indian football team.
Kumar has conceptualised the biopic, which will showcase the life of Bhutia. Currently, he is in the process of finalising a director and lead actor for the film.
In a statement, Kumar said that the idea of making a film on football struck him during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
“He has won the Padma Shree and has been a role model for many young Indians, who follow the game of football,” Kumar further said.
Besides Bhutia, biopics on sports legends such as PT Usha, Mithali Raj, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Jhulan Goswami, Baloo Palwankar, Abhinav Bindra and Pullela Gopichand are also in the works.
