Bihar BJP leader Manoj Baitha booked for Muzaffarpur hit-and-run case surrenders


Bihar: Suspended Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Baitha who is accused in the Muzaffarpur hit-and-run case, surrendered before the police arrested him on Wednesday, “Manoj Baitha, a district level worker of Sitamarhi, has been suspended from the primary membership of the party for a period of six years.

He is the owner of the SUV that ran over nine children and injured around 20 outside their government school at Dharampur village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on February 24.

At least nine children were killed and about 20 injured when the speeding vehicle lost control and ploughed through them outside a government school building on the outskirts of Muzaffarpur on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Baitha was shifted from Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital to Patna Medical College and Hospital, for treatment of the injuries he suffered in the accident.

The police had registered an FIR against Baitha following a complaint by a local who lost his granddaughter in the incident.

Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi had said the police were directed to take “sternest possible action” against Baitha irrespective of his political affiliations.
