Bhubaneswar school children, teachers, driver beaten up by Jajpur locals

Bhubaneswar: A school picnic group that included teachers and around 600 students of a Bhubaneswar based school were allegedly misbehaved by locals of Ratnagiri, Jajpur on Saturday.

Teachers and students of the school have resorted to a dharna and roadblock protesting the incident as a youth has been arrested by police, sources said.

Students of the Saraswati Sishu Mandir, Dharma Vihar Bhubaneswar were on a picnic to the historic Buddhist site in Ratnagiri in Jajpur in nine buses which the drivers parked in front of the local shops at the foothills of Ratnagiri. The local shop owners opposed to the parking blaming the picnic party for their loss of business and this led to a heated debate between the two groups.

Sources said the locals beat up the drivers and even teachers of the picnic group following which the teachers and students have blocked the road and are sitting on a dharna. Local BJP leader Priyabrata Jena has joined the Saraswati Sishu Mandir staff and students in the protest.
