Bhadrak unrest: Armed forces hold flag march, central forces to join the peace-keeping operation

Bhadrak: Keeping the curfew in force at Bhadrak town, armed forces held flag march in violence-prone areas to calm down the unrest that erupted following a derogatory remark posted on social media targeting Hindu deities.

As many as 15 platoons of police forces went on a flag march headed by senior officials including ADG Binayananda Jha starting from Town police station.

Moreover, two companies of central forces will reach the spot today following a letter from the State government seeking assistance from Centre for restoring peace.

“Two companies of central forces will reach Bhadrak today after State wrote to Centre seeking help to gain control over the chaotic situation”, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

However, BJP leader Pratap Sarangi alleged local BJD leaders for instigating the communal unrest. On the other hand, putting their stance at a press meet in Cuttack, VHP refuted its own and Bajrang Dal’s involvement in the disruption.

Notably, curfew has been extended and will remain in force till 8 am tomorrow.
