Mumbai: Nearly 2000 private buses were deployed in Mumbai as Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus strike entered the fifth day.
The School Bus Owners’ Association has announced that services of a total of 2000 private buses will be provided to the passengers in the megapolis.
Anil Garg of the School Bus Owners’ Association said passengers travelling up to 10 km will be charged Rs 20. The BEST rates will be applicable beyond that limit.
Differently abled and senior citizens can travel free of cost, he added.
The lifeline of Mumbai has always been the BEST. It has a fleet of 3200 buses comprises nearly 32000 employees.
It is the second largest transport system in the metropolis after local trains. According to an estimation, over 70 lakh people commute via BEST buses regularly.
