Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir: Baramulla has earned the distinction of becoming the first militant-free district in Jammu and Kashmir, police on Thursday said.
DGP Dilbagh Singh told news agencies that the district has become the first with no surviving militants as of date after yesterday’s encounter in which three ultras were gunned down by the security forces.
Reports said on Wednesday a search and cordon operation was launched by the security forces in Binner area of the district based on a tip-off about the presence of ultras there.
A gun battle ensued after the security forces were fired upon by the terrorists. Three terrorists were killed in the ambush.
Some reports said the slain terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taibas. Weapons and other incriminating material was recovered from them.
