Bhubaneswar: Even as the Election Commission of India (ECI) notified February 28th as the date for counting of votes and result announcement for the Bijepur bypoll, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda took to twitter to create a poll platform for speculating the fate of three major political parties battling for the by-election just a day after polling.
Panda, who has been in news after his ouster as party’s primary member from the state ruling-BJD again nailed the internet with his Tweetpoll product.
According to the Twitter poll, the prospect of three candidates over winning the Bijepur battle was rated as such:
BJD’s Rita Sahu- 26%
BJP’s Ashok Panigrahi- 65%
Congress’ Pranay Sahu- 4%
So who do you think will win the #BijepurBypoll for the Odisha assembly, held on the 24th? Please vote here & we shall see after the counting on the 28th how good (or not) Twitterati are at sensing the political mood in my state…

After the result was declared, BJD registered a thumping victory with a record margin of 41933 votes this afternoon and Rita Sahu securing 102871 votes jolted the Tweet poll creator and even ruled out the Tweeple speculations at the same time. Whatever the motive may be but it appeared as a gnat trying to curb an elephant.
Notably, BJD had never won this seat in the last 15 years even when there was wave after wave in 2009 and 2014 elections. So, it’s a very special win with one of the largest margins in western Odisha s electoral history. However, people are mistaking the social media followers as real voters cut a sorry figure.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Mahapatra, Editor of Hindustan Times apparently trolled this futile attempt by stating that “Looks like the twitterati went horribly wrong in assessing #BijepurByElection After 9 rounds of vote counting @bjd_odisha leading by 21k votes. Moral of the story: People, not tweeple, matter in matters of politics #BijepurBypoll“.
Though the dart hit its right target, the yelling victim is yet to comment on the masterly tease.
