Australian Open 2019: Sharapova, Federer enter fourth round
Melbourne: Five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova knocked out defending champion Caroline Wozniacki out of the Australian Open with a three-set win.
The 30th seed Sharapova registered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory to reach the fourth round.
The 2008 Australian Open champion took her second match point to win in two hours and 24 minutes. Sharapova is scheduled to face Australia’s Ashleigh Barty on Sunday in the fourth-round meeting.
On the other hand, Swizerland’s Roger Federer reached the Australian Open fourth round after defeating American Taylor Fritz with a three-set win.
Federer locked the match with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 win. Federer also celebrated his 100th match at the Australian Open on Friday. Federer will face Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in his next match.
