Asian Games: Indian women’s squash team settle for silver
Jakarta: The Indian women squash team settled for silver as Joshna Chinappa and Sunanya Kuruvilla lost their sets in the finals on 14th day of the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta on Saturday. The team lost 0-2 against Hong Kong.
The Indian team comprising of Joshana Chinappa, Dipika Pallikal Karthik, Sunayna Kuruvilla and Tanvi Khanna made their way to the finals after they defeated Malaysian team by 2-0 in the semi-finals.
From the contingent, Sunanya Kuruvilla played the first set and lost the first match to Hong Kong and after losing the first two sets, she took the third trailing 1-2.
Then, Joshna Chinappa lost the first two sets 3-11, 9-11 to Wing Chi Annie Au in the second match of the final. India trailed the tie against Hong Kong 1-0. After which she lost her set and India has to settle for silver.
Earlier, in the semifinal, Joshana Chinappa from the contingent was up against 9-time Asian Games medallist Nicol David. After five grueling sets, she emerged as the winner with 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9 scoreline.
Later, Dipika Pallikal beat Low Wee Wern in the second singles match to close out the win for India in the semifinal.
