Asian Games 2018: India wins first medal in shooting


Jakarta: India opened account at Asian Games 2018 by clinching a bronze medal in the 10 meter Air Pistol mixed category on Sunday, the first day of action of the continental sporting event being held in Jakarta and Palembang.

India’s Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar won bronze in the 10mm Air Rifle Mixed Team Event. India finished behind China and Chinese Taipei in the final.

The Indian pair shot 429.9 points while Chinese Taipei bagged the gold with 494.1 point. The China settled down for silver with 492.5 points.

Apurvi and Ravi with this will participate in their respective single category. Earlier, the duo had qualified for the final after recording an excellent score of 853.3 in the qualification round, which saw them placed in the very first lane.

In the Men’s Trap Qualification Day 1, Manavjit Singh Sandhu topped with a score of 72 while Lakshay secured 5th position with a score of 71.

Similarly, Shreyasi Singh finished 2nd with 71 points in Women’s Trap Qualification while Seema Tomar finished at 4th position with a score of 71.
