Asian Champions Trophy: India beat Japan with 9-0


Muscat: The Indian men’s hockey team registered their third straight win after they defeated Japan with 9-0 scoreline at the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy in Muscat in Oman on Sunday.

Lalit Upadhyay, Harmanpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep, Gurjant Singh and Kothajit Singh were the scorers for India.

The goal-fest was led by Lalit in the 4th minute of the match followed by Harmanpreet in the 17th minute and Mandeep in the 49th minute.

Akashdeep who led the team with an attack in the 35th minute was declared the man of the match.

Earlier, India had beat Japan 8-0 in the pool stage of the Asian Games in Indonesia this year, but the Japanese team clinched the gold medal whereas India had to settle for bronze.
