Aquaman enters billion-dollar club at worldwide box office
Los Angeles: Jason Momoa starrer Aquaman entered the billion-dollar club at the worldwide box office. The DC superhero adventure flick stayed on the top spot globally for four weeks in a row.
The action-packed movie earned the spot after it surpassed Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice’s 873.6 million dollars income. The James Wan directorial knocked off its simultaneous releases Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns and maintained its buzz.
The film rotates around DC Comics character Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and his alter-ego who is the half-surface dweller and half-Atlantean. Arthur is a character who later in the movie gets caught in the conflict between the surface world and the Atlanteans.
When Arthur’s half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) wants to wage war against humans for polluting the oceans, Arthur with the help of Mera (Amber Heard), the daughter of the king of an Atlantean tribe, stops him.
Aquaman also starred Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman in supporting roles.
The movie released on December 14 in India and on December 21 in North American theaters.
