Anganwadi workers-cops clash in city
Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of anganwadi workers, who staged a protest at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here regarding fulfillment of their nine-point charter of demands, got into a brawl with the cops on Tuesday.
The agitators took out a mass rally from Master Canteen Square and marched towards the Odisha Assembly when they were stopped by the cops. Soon a scuffle broke out after the agitators tried to break through the barricades.
Following this, around ten platoons of police forces were deployed at the location in order to prevent any untoward situation.
The agitators said that the protest would intensify in the upcoming days if the government ignores their demands.
“The state government should sanction a monthly pension of Rs 3000 per month to the anganwadi workers and should raise the age of retirement to 65,” added an agitator.
