Cuttack: The 3rd edition of All India Police Judo Cluster-2018 will begin from tomorrow at two venues of Cuttack city— J.N.Indoor Stadium and Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall in Barabati Stadium.
Today the curtain-raising function of the above event was held at J.N.Indoor Stadium Cuttack. DGP R.P.Sharma graced the programme as Chief Guest and inaugurated the Logo and Mascot of the tournament.
As many as 1200 players and 300 officials and trainers from 33 teams, consisting of Central Para Military Forces and State Police Organisations will participate in this mega sporting event.
These teams will compete in four events, namely, Judo, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, and Wushu. The championship will be organized under the guidance of ‘All India Police Sports Control Board’. The event will be held from November 15 to 19.
Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department is providing necessary support in the shape of men and material to make this event a grand success. Sports Federation of these four disciplines is also providing the required logistics and technical support.
The Mascot for the Asian Athletics Championship and World Cup Hockey ‘Olly’ has been taken as the Mascot of this event as well. Olly is Odisha’s rare species of Olive Ridley Turtle.
Separates Sub-Committees have been formed under the leadership of Senior Officers of State Police for better coordination and management of the event.
R.P.Sharma, DGP is the Chairman of the Organising Committee and Manoj Chhabra, ADGP (SAP) chosen its Vice Chairman. V.T.Mishra, ADGP is the Organising Secretary of the championship who is monitoring the day to day progress of the event.
Players and officials have been accommodated in different locations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar city. The venues for accommodation are Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, SOG Bhubaneswar, 6th OSAP Battalion, Cuttack, NDRF, CISF, BSF and CRPF campus etc. A Control Room is functioning (24×7) at State Police Hdqrs from 7th of November for better coordination.
Similarly, Sub-Control Rooms have started functioning at J.N.Indoor Stadium and Barabati Stadium from 10th of November. Dedicated staffs have been engaged to manage the Control Rooms.
The opening and closing ceremony of the championship will be held at Reserve Police Ground, Buxibazar in Cuttack. Since this tournament is being organized for the first time by Odisha Police and the fact that a large number of players and officials will participate in the championship, DGP Dr. Sharma has categorically asked the officers to work with utmost sincerity and seriousness for the success of the programme.
