Air India Express flight skids off taxiway in Kochi, all passengers on board safe


Kochi: An Air India express flight, with 102 passengers and and six crew members onboard, veered-off from the taxiway at Kochi airport.

A Kochi bound Air India Express flight from Abu Dhabi which landed at 2.40 am skidded off the taxiway while approaching the apron.

All 102 passengers were evacuated safely from the Abu Dhabi-Kochi flight with a ladder.

“During heavy rains last night at about 2:40 am, while entering the bay from the taxiway at Kochi, the aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 skidded off the taxiway”, as per reports.

The wheels of the Abu Dhabi-Kochi Air India Express IX 452 got stuck in a storm water drain on the side of the taxiway opposite the international airport terminal.

The nose-wheel of the aircraft collapsed when it went off the taxiway, sources said.

Last week, an Air India flight set for take-off to San Francisco was delayed by more than nine hours over a rat loose on the plane.
