Air India aircraft goes off radar; jets escorted for safe landing


New Delhi: Air India’s passenger aircraft today went off radar for a few moments in its way to London while flying over Hungary.

The aircraft had to be escorted by fighter jets after losing its contact with the Air traffic control. The flight AI 171 had took off from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai in the morning with 231 passengers and 18 crew members.

According to Air India’s spokesperson, the flight landed safely at London’s Heathrow Airport at 11:05 hours.

Similarly, an incident was witnessed on February 16 in German skies when fighter jets escorted Boeing 777 and the flight landed at London’s Heathrow Airport without any mishap.
