Chilika: An expert team of the Animal Disease Research Institute (ADRI) will visit Chilika Lake Thursday to inspect whether the migratory birds coming to Chilika lake have Influenza A (H1N1) virus.
The visit was scheduled following the death of crows in Siala forest area under Chilika-Nuapada range and near Alandapatna area of Krushnaprasad block in Puri district recently.
As per sources, forest and veterinary officials collected stool samples of about 150 migratory birds from Nalabana in the lake. Samples of hens and ducks from the villages near the lake were also collected. Around 308 samples have been sent to the ADRI.
The samples will be sent to Bhopal for an elaborate test if the H1N1 virus will be found in the samples.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chilika Wildlife Division held a meeting to decide the further course of action regarding the death of crows and some migratory bird species along the Konark-Chandrabhaga coast.
